The Concrete Crown

This rather mysterious elevated block of concrete resides by the shoreline of Lake Tuggeranong in the suburb of Greenway, Canberra.

As pictured, embedded within the concrete is the shape of a crown and the structure itself is pointing north.

I have been unable to identify the structure’s symbolism and its origins.

Update: The crown, located a short distance from the Francis Greenway Memorial in Greenway, is an extension of the memorial, as the crown is a feature of Francis Greenway’s architectural works – in particular, carvings of the crown are visible on the gables on the Hyde Park Barracks and St James Church in Sydney.
