As a residents of Canberra we are blessed with great infrastructure and a choice of activities to partake in, particularly on the weekends. Most weekends our family isn’t able to take advantage of the various activities which present themselves, although being a long weekend we had a little more time on our hands to enjoy some activities.
The Enlighten Festival is an innovative concept where cultural institutions within Canberra’s Parliamentary Triangle are utilised and ‘architectural projections’ are displayed on the walls of the buildings. The effect transforms the buildings into a stunning array of lights, colours and animations across the walls.
The National Arboretum is recent addition to Canberra’s landscape with various tree plantings from around the world located throughout the park and outdoor public artworks on permanent display. This was my first visit the Arboretum and my family were keen to show it to me as they had already previously enjoyed its amenities.
Being a planned city, Canberra incorporates an excellent bicycling network, particularly around Canberra’s lakes. My daughter and I joined my parents on their regular Monday morning cycling ride with their friends and enjoyed the warm sunshine and the lake views. It was a rare treat!
